We decided to hit up Devil’s Backbone Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows on our anniversary getaway since it’s my husband’s favorite. I have to say I wasn’t expecting what we saw as we pulled up to the brewery. It’s huge and surrounded by mountains in the Rockfish valley. It was a cold winter day so some of the buildings outside the main restaurant weren’t open, but the fire pit was going strong. We decided to head inside and sit at the bar for some beer and snacks. I immediately chose the Trail Angel Weiss. It’s a new fave for sure! The Hubs got a sampler of six and settled on the Mulled Vienna which tasted like Christmas in a glass. They have an extensive menu but try the pork nachos, you won’t be disappointed! Look around at the walls while you’re there, there are many mountain animals to keep you company!
As you head out to your stay the Iris Inn, stop by Bold Rock for some seriously refreshing cider. The hubs was skeptical about trying the cider after visiting Devil’s Backbone, but after a free tasting, he was sold! We bought a mixed six pack and off we went.
There are several other places to try out as you head out, Wild Wolf Brewing Co., Blue Mountain Brewery, Silverback Distillery, and a few others. Those are on our list for next time.
