Ever wanted to sleep in a treehouse? Want a unique experience in the jungles of Costa Rica? Check out The Treehouses Hotel! This hidden gem is about a 20 minute drive from Arenal and the town of La Fortuna. Expect rustic but comfortable accommodations, but don’t expect wifi or TV. This hotel is for those who want to spend their time exploring and becoming one with nature. One way is the “outdoor” shower. The shower is inside your treehouse but it’s screened on the backside and completely private so you feel like you are showering in the trees.
During check in, one of the staff, brought a red eyed tree frog over for us to hold. Seriously, it was one of the coolest animals I’ve ever seen! I couldn’t get enough of him!
The staff delivers coffee or tea to your treehouse each morning puts fruit out for animals to nosh on. If you are lucky, you will see something other than giant squirrels come for breakfast. After coffee you can head down to the “rancho” for a delicious, hot breakfast and watch the scores of hummingbirds dance around the feeders.
One of the many hidden gems of the property is a water fall and natural pool at the back of the property. It poured rain as we walked down to the river and waterfall, so unfortunately, we never saw the howler monkeys that lived back there, but when we clapped our hands, we sure did hear them. I was hell bent on seeing some animals, so I started to get closer into the trees where we could hear them, but the males started growling which scared us half to death, so we got the heck out of dodge. My husband seriously thought I was crazy! We still laugh about this wet, mosquito ridden adventure. Yes, take ponchos and bug spray! Lots of bug spray!
Another fantastic feature is the night hike with the night guard, Rolando. He takes you around the property and shows you all the amazing creatures that hang out (tree frogs, tarantulas, lizards, interesting plants and more). Though it poured rain by the end of the trek, we loved every minute.
The Treehouses hotel is truly a unique experience that shouldn’t be missed if you are in the area of La Fortuna. The staff is really great letting you know of animals they’ve seen in their trees and of other adventures in the area. Take your binoculars! Be patient and enjoy being unplugged amongst the sounds of the jungle!
